A fatberg is a rock-like mass of waste matter in a sewer system formed by the combination of flushed non-biodegradable solids (like wet wipes) with fat, oil, and grease deposits.
Fatberg is a compound of the words “fat” and “iceberg.”
Much like notable hurricanes and winter storms, there have been several fatbergs that have made headlines over the years. One such example is in 2014 when a solid mass of waste fat, wet wipes, food, tennis balls and wood planks, the size of a Boeing 747 was discovered in a drain beneath a section of road in London.
However, I was not made aware that fatbergs even existed until the news today that Bryan Adams’ concert in Perth had to be canceled due to one of these massive monstrosities. This news truly Cuts Like a Knife. Adams has not yet publicly commented on the incident but I’m sure he’ll Roll with the Punches with whatever else he may face while on tour. After all, it’s not the Summer Of ’69. Tomorrow is a Brand New Day.
