The two hardest items to obtain at The Masters golf tournament would be (in order) a Green Masters Championship Jacket and… a 2-foot garden gnome… and it’s a tight race.
It’s not the golf shirts, hats, pimento sandwiches or even the badge that grants you access to the holy land of golf that are hard to obtain BUT the Masters Commemorative Garden Gnome… that’s the king of the Augusta course.
Yes, a 2-foot garden gnome has patrons showing up early at the Masters pro shop in hopes of getting their hands on the coveted souvenir.
The diminutive statue only stands 2-feet tall but is THE BIGGEST attraction off the course by far.
Here’s how it goes.
Thousands of the daily patrons line up – pre-dawn – before the pro shop opens at 7am just to get in line. And once the Masters pro shop opens for business, the bearded, bucket-hatted gnome is – much like the tournament itself – SOLD OUT!
A 2016 gnome is going for the steep price of $6,999.
This year’s model is averaging around $300 in on-line auctions, with the mini version and the Christmas ornament coming in somewhat lower. But for the initial cost of $50 it’s a solid ROI on a GNOME.
