Florence, Oregon celebrated Exploding Whale Day to remember a bizarre incident on a Florence beach where a stranded sperm whale was blown up 53-years-ago on November 12th 1970.
The news footage of the incident gained viral popularity on the internet in recent years, featuring chunks of blubber hitting people and destroying vehicles… much like the ending of “JAWS”.
And now, for the 50th Anniversary, the infamous KATU Exploding Whale video has been remastered!
The Oregon Historical Society arranged for a 4K transfer of the original raw film footage from their archive.
KATU has re-edited the package from the new high resolution video and… Thar She Blows!
