OSHKOSH, WI — The Oshkosh Arena has reopened in time for this weekend’s GWBA playoffs and championship game. The reopening was announced in a news release from the arena. It states: “The Oshkosh Arena takes patron safety and fire safety very seriously. Oshkosh Arena has complied with the City of Oshkosh’s Fire Code regulations and has corrected all issues cited. The Oshkosh Arena sends special thanks to the OFD Chief and Asst. Chief for their assistance in getting compliant.”
The arena was closed and secured by the Oshkosh Fire Department on July 26 after it was found that the arena’s fire alarm system was in need of service and had not been serviced annually, as required by fire codes, since June 2021. Quarterly and annual sprinkler system inspections and servicing had not been done since May 11, 2022. The Ansul extinguishing system had not been been serviced semi-annually, as required by fire codes, since December 2022. Kitchen hoods, which are required to be professionally cleaned and inspected semi-annually, had been serviced since September 20, 2021. The fire alarm system had also not been monitored since June 2023. The City of Oshkosh previously cited the Oshkosh Arena on October 26, 2022, and again on February 22, 2023, due to non-compliance with fire code.
With certification of compliance with fire codes, the Oshkosh Arena will now host the GBWA playoffs and championship game as scheduled on Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6.
