The Florida community of Mulberry has taken the extraordinary step of installing road signs that say “Beware of Smartphone Zombies“, to warn drivers of PEDESTRIANS (who are so engrossed in their phones) that they’re not paying attention to what the vehicles around them are doing.
This comes on the heels of a tragedy where a 13 year old was struck and killed by an Amtrak train while walking home from school.
City Manager Rick Johnson got the idea from a MEME, but he thinks it’s important . . . especially in areas around schools and libraries, where kids are often walking around on their phones, and sometimes also wearing headphones.
Reaction are mixed to say the least but officials say a little warning may go a long way and possibly save lives and that’s worth it.
