At this point can we just admit that country music is just a twanger version of southern rock? So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see a tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd at the CMT Country Music Awards. What makes it newsworthy is the fact they got Slash from Guns N’ Roses, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, Warren Haynes from The Allman Brothers, Paul Rodgers from Bad Company and more to join up with some country legends like Wynonna Judd, Cody Johnson, and LeAnn Rimes to pay their respects to the 50th anniversary of Skynyrd’s debut album Pronounced…
They weren’t done crossing those rock and country boundaries though. Gary Clark Jr. showed up pay tribute to legendary Texas blues player Stevie Ray Vaughn.
