A tradition unlike any other.
That may seem to many as the intro to The Masters golf tournament… but it’s not.
Another long-held tradition at the Iowa State fair – along with the “calling” of many animals (cows/hogs/etc.) – is the “Husband-Calling Contest“.
And, yes, it’s exactly what you imagine it is. Women getting on stage and calling out to their husbands – who collectively all seem to be late for something important. The Husband-Callers are judged on Delivery, Technique, Originality and Presentation – I suppose VOLUME would also be a judgable criteria.
The (loud) message here is; you can keep your new-fangled messaging apps and such technology – when a good ol’ yell does the trick and takes the ribbon.
