Lakeflies have made their annual Mothers Day weekend appearance. The large spring hatch is underway in Lake Winnebago. Swarms of lakeflies were reported in Calumet County this week. Their heaviest concentrations are usually determined by wind direction. While a nuisance for humans, the bugs provide an important source of food for birds and fish. There will be a second, smaller hatch in August.
