Historic forts located off the coast of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom are up for sale through the UK-based Strutt & Parker real estate company. The circular forts built just off Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight have been renovated with shops, restaurants and lodging for a unique travel and entertainment experience.
The forts themselves date back to the 1860s and built as an answer to the French threat at the time. They were decommissioned after World War II and put up for sale a couple of decades later. Solent Forts eventually bought some of the properties which were renovated to act as a museum as well as for lodging and entertainment. Due to the recent pandemic, reservations have been suspended at all the Solent Forts properties.
As you might expect, a completely renovated fort in the middle of the water doesn’t come cheap. Strutt & Parker have two of the renovated structures listed for £4,250,000 and £4,000,000 (approximately $5,600,000 and $5,300,000 respectively). However, if you’re looking to go the DIY route there is still an unrenovated fort available listed for £750,000 (just under $1,000,000).
