The touring van once owned by Seattle band Melvins that has artwork drawn on it by Kurt Cobain will be displayed in Seattle this weekend.
The van will be displayed as part of Saturday’s Record Store Day festivities at two local stores in the Seattle Area – Easy Street Records and Silver Platters.
After the weekend, the van will be cut into pieces and the Cobain mural part will go up for bids as part of Julien’s Auctions’ “Music Icons” sale, set for May 30th and 31st in New York City.
Darren Julien, president/CEO of Julien’s Auctions. “We’re thrilled to partner with Record Store Day and these beloved local record stores to give fans a front-row seat to this one-of-a-kind piece of music memorabilia before it goes to auction.”
The “Melvan” (love that name) is a 1972 Dodge Sportsman Royal Van served as the main vehicle for Melvins in their early touring days and it features a KISS mural on one side hand-drawn by the late Nirvana frontman using Sharpie markers Cobain stole from a Thriftway grocery store in Montesano, Washington.
