APPLETON, WI — An investigation into former St. Francis Xavier principal Mike Mauthe is now closed, according to the Appleton Police Department. Our media partner Action 2 News has filed an open records request to learn the details of that investigation. The City of Appleton says per state law those records could be released as early as next week if Mauthe does not challenge the request.
Many community members are still searching for answers as to why Mauthe was fired back in November. About three months ago, parents received a letter from former Xavier interim president Katie Heim, stating that Mauthe was put on administrative leave due to a complaint received by the Green Bay Diocese Safe Environment Office, prompting an investigation into Mauthe.
In accordance with mandatory reporting laws in the state, a report was filed with the Appleton police department. During that investigation, it was found that Mauthe violated the Diocese of Green Bay’s “Our Promise to Protect” policy resulting in his termination.
