APPLETON, Wis–The city of Appleton may do away with No Mow May. The city’s Municipal Services Committee approves a resolution that would no longer allow people to completely skip mowing their lawns for the entire month of May, and instead increase the allowable length of grass and weeds from eight inches to ten inches all year round.
Alder Alex Schultz believes longer lawns all summer still help pollinators…………
Alder Chad Doran thinks there are better ways to help bees and butterflies than having shaggy lawns all year…………
A growing number of communities that adopted No Mow May after Appleton are making similar amendments–or doing away with the program altogether. The Appleton Common Council will vote on the resolution next month.
