Beetlejuice is back! The full trailer for the sequel, featuring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, and Jenna Ortega, is finally HERE!
The follow-up film, titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, comes 36 years after the original, which was released in 1988. It will continue the story of the Deetz family, including Lydia (Ryder) and Delia Deetz (O’Hara). This time, Lydia’s daughter, Astrid (Ortega), reawakens Beetlejuice by rebelliously reciting his name three times while her mom tries to stop her and warn her of what’s to come.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Tim Burton explained that the bad press around the 1988 film, which grossed $32 million in its first two weeks, made movie fans, like himself, more intrigued to go see it.
“The things that interest me the most are the things that potentially won’t work,” he said. “On Beetlejuice, I could tell every day what was gonna work and what wasn’t. And that was very invigorating.”
He explained that while many people made fun of the storyline of the movie, “when I read it, I thought ‘Wow! This is sort of interesting. It’s very random. It doesn’t follow what I would consider the Spielberg story structure.’ I guess I have to watch it more, because I’m intrigued by things that are perverse. Like, I was intrigued that there was no story.”
In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, new cast members include Justin Theroux, Monica Belluci, Arthur Conti, and Willem Dafoe. It will be in theaters September 6th–the ‘Juice is loose!
