Could you win a fight with a bison/buffalo? It’s a weird question with a pretty simple answer… no.
But don’t let common sense or official advice stop you from finding out the hard way.
A tourist visiting Yellowstone National Park has been caught on camera walking up to a very large bison and threatening the animal by shouting and gesturing at it.
A video of the 2018 incident was shared via Instagram account TouronsOfYellowstone (below) last week, shows the animal taking exception to this behavior and calling the man’s bluff charge with a buff charge of it’s own.
According to the National Park Service, bison are responsible for more injuries at Yellowstone than any other animal. He avoided injuries (unfortunately) but repercussions he did not.
Law enforcement officers issued a warrant for his arrest, and he was later arrested at Glacier National Park after getting involved in a fight.
Yellowstone superintendent Dan Wenk said at the time of the original incident, “The individual’s behavior in this video is reckless, dangerous and illegal. People who ignore [wildlife safety] rules are risking their lives and threatening the park experience for everyone else.”
Approaching, distracting, or harassing wildlife at US National Parks is illegal, and those found guilty can expect fines, bans, and even jail time.
