APPLETON, Wis–The namesake of a downtown Appleton museum has died. Dr. Monroe Trout passed away Monday at the age of 92.
He and his wife, Sandra, provided a major donation to the Appleton Art Center, which was then renamed the Trout Museum of Art in their honor. On Thursday, the Trout and Lawrence University will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building that will house the art museum.

We are saddened to share the news of the passing of our dear friend and benefactor, Dr. Monroe E. Trout. He was not only a generous supporter but also an important member of our community whose impact reverberated far beyond the bounds of the Trout Museum of Art.
