We are proud to name as this week’s Rick and Cutter Show Weenies of the Week…the folks at FOX Sports, who on Thanksgiving deprived Jordan Love of his turkey leg causing a scandal among Packer fans not seen since Coach Dan Devine’s dog was still alive.
For non football fans, for many, many years Fox Sports has continued a frankly stupid but somehow beloved tradition started by the late John Madden of presenting the Thanksgiving Day MVP with a turkey leg after the game.
Love was the MVP with a career day, completing 22 of 32 pass attempts for 268 yards and three touchdowns. Yet during the post-game interview, FOX sports Erin Andrews informed him, “You’re looking for a turkey leg? We don’t have one”.
MVP’s of the day’s other two games received legs but no turkey love for Jordan Love.
Some Packer fans started to blame FOX football analyst Greg Olson for what became known as Turkeygate, recalling how he tore apart a Madden style turducken in the booth early in the broadcast.
It led to Olson issuing a denial Thursday night explaining that the turducken he destroyed was separate from any bird that might have been reserved for the MVP.
This led to another popular theory that FOX, assuming the heavily favored Detroit team would win, had prepared a turkey with the Lions logo somehow branded on the leg, so it would have been embarrassing to present that drumstick to Love.
While we may never know the real reason for their disgraceful drumstick disrespect, we do know that it left Jordan and Packer fans dearly disappointed.
So,
For creating the worst Thanksgiving faux pas since the pilgrims showed up at that first dinner with a green bean casserole that had no crunchy French-fried onions on top.
For making the kind of Thanksgiving Day mistake that can only be called a tur-duck up.
And for making FOX football look like they’re incompetent idiots…which I guess somebody has to do ever since Joe and Troy left.
We are proud to name whomever was responsible for Jordan Love not getting the post-game turkey leg he earned on Thanksgiving Day as this week’s Rick and Cutter Show…WEENIES OF THE WEEK.
