Dwight Twilley has died.
In a confirmed statement from the Oklahoma native’s wife, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. He was 72 years old.
Twilley’s career started in the late 60s with the bulk of his success coming in the late 70s and early 80s. It was during that time period when you could Twilley’s most popular songs on WAPL, starting with “I’m On Fire”, a song released in 1975 that WAPL featured early in our flip to a rock format. In March of 1982, WAPL played new songs from Twilley’s LP Scuba Divers featuring the song “Somebody To Love”. And in January of 1984, WAPL added the album Jungle and Twilley’s hit “Girls”, which reached #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
