Actress Suzanne Somers, that’s known for playing the irrepressible Chrissy on the TV series Three’s Company, died early this morning, a day shy of her 77th birthday.
According to Suzanne’s spokesperson, “She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family. Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”
Sommers first gained national attention briefly playing the mysterious blonde in the white Thunderbird pursued by Richard Dreyfuss in the movie American Graffiti.
From there, her role costarring with John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt in the hit ABC comedy Three’s Company made her a household name and national sex symbol.
Following Three’s Company, Somers did to Playboy pictorials and became the spokesperson for an exercise device known as the Thighmaster. Her infomercials for the product reportedly sold millions.
In the 90s, Suzanne starred in a short-lived TV series called She’s the Sheriff, that lasted just two seasons. Hot on the heels of that show, she costarred with Patrick Duffy for six seasons as a stepmother on Step by Step.
In more recent years, Suzanne appeared as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars.
