Whoever said taxidermy was a dying business was technically right but also that person never created a REAL piggy bank.
An Arizona woman named Rachel Lewis has taken her love of taxidermy and created a niche business by making piggy banks… from REAL piggies… well… stillborn piglets which are apparently quite common.
Lewis says, “I thought a piggy bank would be really cute to do. I tried to figure out how to make it work where it would hold the weight of change and be fully functional.”
Her first real piggy bank sold for $750 but now, typically, each one sells for around $350 and they’ve become a hot seller (insert bacon smell here).
Lewis says she wants to ultimately make one from a larger pig as well.
