10 years ago today, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield returned to earth after nearly 5 months stay on the International Space Station. Hadfield commemorated the end of his expedition by releasing the first music video shot in space. Appropriately, it was his own version of David Bowie’s Space Oddity with lyrics he adapted to reflect his own experience. 10 years on, and over 51 million views later, the video still fills me with wonder the way all the billionaires’ vanity fueled penis rockets never will. Even if you’ve seen it before, it sure is worth another look.
Hadfield later released Space Sessions: Songs From a Tin Can, an album of songs that he had recorded on the ISS.
