MILWAUKEE, Wis–The state Court of Appeals rules in favor of the Omro School District in its efforts to ban a former teacher from its buildings. Neil Klosterman sued after he was told to stay away from all Omro Schools property.
Klosterman initially had his contract not renewed by the district in 2018–which led to considerable public outcry and his rehiring. He would eventually resign from his position in 2019.
The district says that concerns had been raised about Klosterman’s pattern of physical contact with middle school boys. In its ruling, the Appeals Court finds the district has the power to ban visitors and that allowing Klosterman on campus “would unnecessarily expose students to potentially dangerous behavior”.
A dissenting opinion found that the district provided no evidence of students being upset or harmed by Klosterman’s actions.
