As the Foo fighters come off a less-than-stellar debut at the box office for their horror/comedy ‘Studio 666,’ KISS’ Paul Stanley was asked about their often-maligned foray into motion pictures – 1978’s ‘KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park.’
Stanley said, “I embrace it like an ugly child. You have to realize that we were imbeciles who got to take over the school, We knew nothing about acting, nothing about filmmaking. We were sold the idea of the film in a sentence that was virtually, A Hard Day’s Night meets Star Wars. Well, it was from either.”
And that may be an understatement.
After voicing his concerns to then manager Bill Aucoin, Stanley then realized his fears had horrifically come true at a viewing of the film before it aired on NBC. “I just slid further down in my chair. By the time it was over, I was looking at chewing gum on the bottom of the seats.”
As you can see in the trailer below… Stanley was right. But the ‘film’ has become a ‘guilty pleasure’ among KISS fans and is largely-considered ‘essential viewing’ for members of the KISS Army.
Maybe instead check out the 2015 animated movie trailer for ‘Scooby Doo! and KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery‘ as it shares a similar plot.
