Orders are pouring in to support Door County Candle Company’s fundraiser for Ukraine.
Owner Christiana Gorchynsky Trapani says as of Monday, they have more than 4,000 candles sold.
Gorchynsky Trapani grew up Ukrainian American and was raised with Ukrainian as her first language. She still has family and friends living in Ukraine.
“We talked to my family and every day they are just, terrified,” she shared with Focus Fox Valley. “They’re staying put, but they’re terrified. Yesterday, they were trying to figure out how to help people in the capitol, in Kiev and trying to do what they can, but they’re terrified.”
The candle fundraiser launched on Saturday, February 26 and Gorchynsky Trapani says it stemmed from the need to do something, and raise awareness and money.
“We are heartbroken, concerned and scared for all of those in Ukraine,” writes Gorchynsky Trapani on their website. “This special Ukraine candle is a way I feel we can make a difference and help those in need.”
All 100% of profits from the Ukraine Candle will go to Razom for Ukraine, a Ukrainian 501 (c)(3) organization.
“Razom, in English, means together. Though we are a small community, we are powerful, and with the help of our friends working together, we can make a difference,” shared Gorchynsky Trapani.
You can visit the Door County Candle Company website to order. Due to overwhelming response to the Ukraine Candle fundraiser, they ask to allow two weeks for shipping.
