Sewage could play a role in preventing the spread of COVID-19 on the UW-Oshkosh campus.
The school’s Environmental Research and Innovation Center will test wastewater samples from dorms for the presence of coronavirus.
Director Greg Kleinheinz says it’s a way to find places where testing is needed. He says they’re testing students randomly right now, and by identifying dorms with possibly asymptomatic cases, they can target testing to specific dorms.
About 2,300 students are living on the UWO campus this fall.
Nearly 350 overall students have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, along with one staff member.
