The leader of a state police group is on board with a bill supported by Governor Evers to set standards for police officers using force.
Wisconsin Professional Police Association Executive Director Jim Palmer believes it would codify what’s already in place, into state law. But he says it could also lead to a broader discussion on not only law enforcement, but system bias in all of its forms.
Several lawmakers introduced the proposal last year. It would create statewide principles for the use of force by police officers. They would also be required to take action when they see another officer using excessive force.
