The annual Memorial Day ceremony in Appleton was held online, instead of in person, because of the pandemic.
Appleton North High School Senior Adithi Reddy was the keynote speaker. She says her parents immigrated to the U.S. from India, about 30 years ago.
Reddy says “our hearts are heavy with the loss of the many brave and resilient men and women whose selfless service and unselfish sacrifices preserve and embody liberty and justice for all. These are the very same ideals our nation was founded upon. They make our country great.”
You can watch the ceremony on WHBY’s Facebook page.
Students from the other four Appleton high schools recited poems, or read speeches.
The typical parade along College Avenue was canceled.
