Appleton police are starting a “Good Neighbor Program” to have officers check on people at high risk of getting the coronavirus, and are living alone.
Capt. Polly Olson says it covers older adults and people with pre-existing medical conditions. She says family members, neighbors, and others might not be able to see them regularly.
Olson says they thought it would be a good idea to have some connection with vulnerable people, and be able to try to help them meet any immediate needs they may have.
Officers won’t be going inside homes or apartments, but they will talk with the person to make sure they’re doing alright.
People can register for the program by calling Sara Derks at 920-832-5527 or emailing her at sara.derks@appleton.org .
