A school in Menasha is one of eight schools in the state in the running for a prestigious national award.
Nicolet Elementary is being nominated for the Blue Ribbon School honor.
Superintendent Chris VanderHeyden says they scored in the top 15 percent for closing achievement gaps between different groups of students.
He credits the relationships between the teachers and the children at Nicolet and Jefferson Elementary. He says Jefferson is the K-2 school where students go, before moving on to Nicolet.
Nicolet Elementary is the only school in northeast Wisconsin…to make it to the national level. The district will find out in the fall, if the school will win the award.
The Menasha district has had three different Blue Ribbon Schools in the past. The last one was Jefferson Elementary 28 years ago.
