Since you voted Soundgarden‘s “SuperUnknown” as #6 on the Top 20 Rockin’ Apple albums of all time, it reminded me of their early career and the other great music they put out. However, music isn’t the only thing the band is known for, especially in Seattle.
In the late 80s/early 90s Seattle television featured a locally-produced sketch comedy show called “Almost Live!”, a show which gave Joel McHale and Bill Nye (“The Science Guy”) their starts and whose popularity eventually got them picked up by national cable channel Comedy Central. The early years were very low budget and Seattle-centric, with bits being videotaped around the city and featuring local talent, including from the music scene. Before grunge really took off, a number of local musicians were featured on a recurring one-minute sketch called “The Lame List” which followed the same formula: Announcer says something that’s lame; long-haired fellows say “Lame!”
An early “Lame List” from 1990 featured Soundgarden in their infant years as seen below:
Over the many seasons of “Almost Live!” there had been a number of “Lame Lists”, many featuring Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil (although you might recognize some of the other “Lame List” guys too).
