The big summer storm of July, 2019 did lots of damage to lots of people’s property but it also dealt a hard hit to Wisconsin’s music scene when it blew through during the annual Moondance Music Festival northwest of Antigo. The massive storm caused the cancellation of a couple of headliners and discouraged (rightly so) many would-be festival attendees from coming for the weekend. The financial losses incurred by the organizers, who are mostly the fellows in the fine Northeast Wisconsin band Ifdakar, threatens the viability of future Moondances. (In it’s honor, my squinty-eyed friend Rick and I have even sort of dressed alike today; me in my Moondance shirt and he in his Moondance cap! Sexy, right?)
That’s why fans of the festival are coming together to support it through a GoFundMe effort. It should be noted that this is not a fundraising effort by the festival’s financial principles themselves. It’s a fan-driven endeavor which, as a fan and attendee of Moondance myself, I fully endorse. Please help out with a few bucks if you can. Moondance has never been about turning a big profit. It has always been a very organic festival with the goal of bringing people together through good music, good company and good vibes. It’s important that we keep that sort of thing going.
