The City of Appleton is reassessing every home, and property owners will find out their updated values later this month.
Assessor DeAnn Brosman says values went up by an average of 20 percent over the past five years. She says prices on the real estate market have bounced back beyond pre-recession levels.
Brosman says the city was required to do the reassessment because of a state law.
She says just because values are up 20 percent doesn’t mean the average homeowner’s property taxes will rise by that much. She believes the tax rate could drop by about 15 percent, so there might be a smaller increase.
People will be able to appeal their new values.
The city will send out letters to property owners on September 13th, with their new assessed value.
