Valley Transit is making a series of security upgrades at the downtown transit center in Appleton.
Firefighter Mitch Lundgaard was killed during a shooting there in June.
Valley Transit General Manager Ron McDonald says they replaced all of the security cameras with HD ones. They’re connected to the city’s system and he says that means police can access them at any time. He says they also put up signs saying that the Appleton police are watching.
There are also security officers on duty. McDonald says they’re now able to carry pepper spray, a baton, handcuffs, and a taser. But he says their top priority is to de-escalate any problems. He hopes the new equipment can act as a deterrent.
