Peter Mayhew, the actor who portrayed Chewbacca in the majority of the Star Wars franchise, passed away on the evening of April 30, 2019 at his home in North Texas, surrounded by family.
The passing was announced via Mayhew’s official twitter account this evening, May 2 just before 5:30pm CT. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family has asked fans to donate to the Peter Mayhew Foundation, which supports “everything from individuals and families in crisis situations to food and supplies for children of Venezuela during their recent road to freedom.”

Mayhew would have turned 75 years old on May 19th of this year.
