The WAPL cars and drivers for 2008

John Meidam

Here's John Meidam's Budweiser Super Late Model for 2008. Sharp!

John has one of the most professional looking operations at any track in the state. Highly-organized crew, nice hauler... what else would you expect from a Bud team. Not only is John a skilled veteran but he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Sometimes we wonder why he hangs around with us. Then we remember it's for the free concert tickets.

Catch him at Wisconsin International Speedway every Thursday night as well as some specials. And check out the team's website here. They don't have us on their website but we'll get over it.

Action shot! Practice at WIR on Saturday, May 10th.

Here's a picture of the 2007 car. Can you spot the differences from this year's car? If so, circle them on your monitor.

(Before you grab that pen, I was just kidding. That's all we'd need. Everyone ruining their computer screen with a marker. Sheesh.)

Todd Verhagen

This is Todd Verhagen and his 2008 Limited Late Model. Todd's the short guy wearing the cap. When he's not building a house or enjoying a cold one at Buzz's in Freedom, you can find him tearing up the half mile Thursday nights at WIR. He's damn good too. The last two years he's finished second in points in that division. WAPL is proud to say that we've sponsored Todd ever since he moved up to the Limited Late Model division and it's been a great investment.

Todd's crew is one of the best in the division. His crew chief Jason is a racing genius. Joel, Tammy and Travis bust their hump each race. Even WAPL's Ross Maxwell works on the crew once in a while. Like any good crew member he knows how to work a jack and drink the team's beer.

Todd's main sponsor is Shadrie Poured Walls and Concrete Construction of Freedom, WI. This business is top notch. Need a wall poured? These are the guys. Don't like your neighbor? I betcha they'll pour a wall to put up on the property line so you don't have to look at them anymore. Actually, we don't know if they can do that but they do driveways, patios and other concrete work. They're awesome.

Here's the rear shot. We're on the back bumper.

Check out the sweet new trailer in the background. Todd just got it. The crew can get up on the roof and watch for trouble. There's also more room for a bigger cooler.

Scott Mullen

Scott Mullen tackles northeast Wisconsin dirt tracks in his #1 IMCA Modified and has driven for WAPL since 2005. Scott is the 2004 track champion at Seymour and Luxemburg so he knows how to swing a modified around a turn. Not only does Scott race in northeast Wisconsin but he also travels out of state to show other tracks how the Badger State does it.

Scott's primary sponsor is Bayland Buildings. They can build anything. Stores, warehousing, churches... If you need a roof over your head, call them up. They're the best.

Here's Scott at a USMTS race at the Oshkosh Speedzone in 2006.

Look at him. That's pure muscle. You have to wonder how a bull of a man like Scott can fit through that small window.

Here's a little known fact. There's no motor in Scott's car. Instead there's holes in the floor and Scott uses pure foot power, just like Fred Flintstone.

WAPL Drivers From the Past

Randy Boegh

The year was 1980. Walter Kronkite retired from anchoring the CBS Evening News. Someone shot J.R. And 105.7 WAPL became "Your Station For Speed" when Randy Boegh hit the track at WIR in the #106 car.

"Bing Bong" ran the Sportsman division in Kaukauna a number of seasons but the #106 only appeared in 1980. Randy still comes to the track and helps teams out (including John Meidam's Budweiser car). And when you're driving around NE Wisconsin, you'll frequently see Boegh Plastering trucks on the road. Next time you see Randy shake his hand and buy him a drink. It was because of him that the Rockin' Apple High Octane Crew was born.

Brent Strelka

We would be remiss if we didn't mention Brent. Brent came to us in February of 2002 looking to get our name on his car. We hadn't sponsored in a number of years but he gave us an offer we couldn't refuse! WAPL sponsored Brent in the Limiteds, the Super Lates and even for a nationally-televised ASA race. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't be sponsoring cars right now. Thanks Stroker!

Also, a big thanks to Don Dix who drove for us. He's still kickin' around the area with his band, RPM. And to his car owners Jerry and Cheryl Schneider who let us latch on to their back bumper for a couple of years.

IN THE DRAFT PODCAST
