A fella from South Chicago Heights,
down there in Illinois,
has one thing he enjoys above all else.
One thing that brings him joy.
It’s something’s he’s taken pleasure in
for much of his 67 years.
The thing that brings a smile to Bill Bramanti’s face
is a frosty Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
But as Bill finds himself getting older,
after many years of work and toil,
he knows that he won’t live forever
and will one day shuffle of this mortal coil.
Now, death itself does not frighten him.
He feels he’s lived a life that good and true.
But the one thing Bill’s afraid of
is spending all eternity without his favorite brew.
So, Bill Bramanti got an idea
that some might call bizarre.
You see when Bill finally goes to meet his maker
it will be in a coffin shaped like a giant can of PBR.
Bramanti is not currently ill.
In fact, he says he’s in good health.
But after years of enjoying an icy cold one,
he knows he will one day be one himself.
So, Bramanti had a coffin customized
to look like a big Pabst Blue Ribbon can.
It’s silver with the distinctive logo of red and blue,
well known from here to Kazakhstan.
This weekend Bill invited over his dearly beloved
and filled the casket with beer and ice.
But not until after he climbed inside
and found he fit real nice.
So when death comes for Bill Bramanti,
as surely as it will come for us all,
he won’t think of it as the end of life.
but merely as last call.
And like so many beers today
I’m sure his can coffin will have a "born on" date to tell
when Bill first came into this world.
But unlike all the others, his will have a "died on" date as well.
And as friends and family sing Roll Out the Barrel,
Bill’s body will be lowered into his grave
sealed for freshness in a metal cylinder
just like lager he so craved.
And when he arrives in heaven
inside his Pabst Blue Ribbon can
I’m sure Bill is hoping St. Peter believes in recycling.
and sends him back to live and drink again.
